Today's comic, "idea picture," flows from a few different tributaries. A couple of months ago, I watched Bob Mankoff's splendid TedTalk, Anatomy of a New Yorker Cartoon. In the talk, Mankoff describes New Yorker cartoons as "idea drawings," and this phrase stuck with me, because it's a good description of what I usually try to accomplish in a Hurry Up Please It's Time comic.

But not today. Today's comic is an homage to Rene Magritte's 1929 painting, The Treachery of Images - you know, the one with the pipe. Check it out here. Among other things, this classic painting makes manifest the difficulty of using images and words to represent reality. Taking Magritte at his painting, I caution you that today's comic is not an idea picture, and you shouldn't get any ideas from it.

"idea picture" is also a collaboration with up and coming artist and novelist Asher Kite. We composed the comic together, but Asher drew the picture and lettered the caption, for which I am truly grateful.
