crime
On June 4, 2014, North Carolina Governor McRory signed into law the Energy Modernization Act of 2014, which, among others things, made it a crime to disclose the contents of the chemical cocktail that is injected underground at high pressure to fracture or "frack" the rock structures below in the hopes of releasing natural gas deposits. The criminal penalty for disclosure was inserted into the Act at the request of Halliburton and other oil and gas companies.
